Health Information and Resources

Gretna Public Schools will now remain CLOSED through Friday, May 1st.

At Gretna Public Schools, the health and safety of our students, students’ families and staff is our priority.

We take this responsibility seriously. District leaders have been working to monitor the national and international developments related to COVID-19. We are in contact with local health officials and experts. We are monitoring local and national guidance for schools. We continue to adjust our plans as new information is released.

What is COVID-19?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19). The CDC is following this rapidly evolving health situation. On January 31, 2020, the United States declared a public health emergency. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic.

What is the plan to educate our kids?

This closure has shifted our educational focus from the classroom to extended learning.  The administration has continued to partner with our staff to determine what this new learning will entail.  Our district has always prided itself on doing what is best for all children and will continue to focus on all of their needs during this time of uncertainty.  Teachers will communicate more specific information regarding extended learning plans and the structures we have put in place by the afternoon of Monday, March 23rd.

Where can I find additional information on the extended learning plans for my child?

Classroom teachers will be communicating via email on the structure of your child’s learning plan.

What is the plan for school activities?

At this time, all school buildings are closed and school activities have been cancelled through May 1st.  The reopening of schools and the possibility of having school activities will be reassessed again as we near the 1st.
